I was thinking about the past and the present of the America that I grew up in. There were always Democrats and always Republicans and the occasional third party. I remember clearly the inauguration of John F. Kennedy. That is probably the first inauguration that I watched and understood what I was seeing.
The key sentence from President Kennedy's inaugural address was, of course, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." What ever happened to that sentiment, that idea that each citizen owed something to this country and that it was a debt to be held dear and freely paid.
At present, the prevailing sentiment of a large portion of our citizenry seems to be, "What can my country do for ME to satisfy MY special interest, to promote MY pet projects, to make MY life better? While both major political parties have pandered to this sentiment in varying degrees, I believe that the current Democratic party works overtime to think up new entitlements to get the votes of more and more people in this country. However, in doing so, a permanent underclass of citizens is being produced and our country is being bankrupted.
When was it decided that the government should choose who will be the winners and losers in our economy and country. It is not the government's job to make that determination. It is the government's job, in a free market society, to see that everyone has an opportunity to succeed and then get out of the way so that an individual can succeed OR FAIL!
Socialism espouses the idea that the government, not the individual, knows best what and how much you need, and the rest is distributed at the whim of the governing powers. Is that really what America wants to become? The far left of the Democratic party seems to think so!
Those who have worked hard in this country for their whole life might feel that, after paying into social security for all their working years. they are not in favor of allowing illegal aliens to dip into that money when they have not contributed one dime to this fund. But our esteemed Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, and her cohorts want to do exactly that. Shouldn't the citizens who have contributed to this fund be the ones to make such a decision?
One of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln, has some thoughts on these matters that bear consideration.
"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich."
"You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong."
"You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift."
"You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down."
"You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred."
"You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's inititative and independence."
"You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could, and should, do for themselves."
And most imortantly, "A house divided against itself cannot stand."
MAYBE IT IS TIME FOR THE AMERICAN CITIZENS TO RETHINK AND RE-PLAN OUR FUTURE, WHILE WE STILL HAVE ONE!

Spreading The Wealth??
I was watching the news this morning and saw a piece on the possibility that, should Barack Obama become president, one new way of raising revenue for the government would be to take away the tax deduction on 401k and IRA deposits. This tax deduction was originally put into place to encourage people to save for their future retirement. Without that savings for retirement, many people will have to rely on social security to provide their retirement income. Is that a joke?!?!? Everyone knows that social security is practically bankrupt already and once we start allowing 20 million illegal aliens to get their fingers into the social security pie, as the Democrats want, you will be able to eliminate the word PRACTICALLY from the first part of this sentence!!
Barack Obama is a gifted orator and a smart politician. He smoothes over all his questionable relationships with the ease of Bill Clinton while testifying. He disguises his far left leanings with words of hope and change. Perhaps Obama should be known as the Lon Chaney (The Man of 1000 Faces) of politics. Just every so often, he lets his true values and plans slip out and his latest comment about "spreading the wealth" is one of those times.
Think what you want about the Bush administration and whether John McCain really represents four more years of those policies. Convince yourself as much as you need to that it is a good idea to further empower a Democrat-controlled Congress which currently has an approval rating in single digits. And squeeze your eyes shut as tight as you want to help you avoid seeing some obvious truths about Barack and Michelle Obama that you would rather not see or acknowledge.
But you can be sure of one thing. No matter what is said about John McCain and no matter how naive you are about the Congress as controlled by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and no matter how badly you want to believe in Barack Obama, this is the truth. Next Tuesday, when you step into that voting booth, you are going to choose whether the USA goes forward to recover from our current problems and return to greatness or goes down to the special interests that have caused so many of our current problems.
There is one last thing to consider. Senator Obama speaks about spreading the wealth, but that is not what he is spreading. Barack Obama is spreading the same stuff that most farmers spread on their fields this time of year. He is just spreading more than most but, in the end, it smells the same.
By the way, Senator Obama, if you want to spread some wealth, why not ask Franklin Raines, Tim Howard and Jim Johnson to return the combined estimated $288,000,000.00 that they bailed out of Fannie Mae with when it went belly up under their combined leaderships. Since all three men are now senior economic staff members on your campaign team, perhaps they will listen to you and do the right thing.
There are a lot of taxpayers who would love to see THAT wealth spread around!!

This game will likely decide the Big Ten Championship and, in Penn State's case, a probable shot at the National Championship!
Penn State is favored to win, but they have lost the last seven games that they have played at The Horseshoe (Ohio State's stadium). It should be a tough game.
I am asking anyone who reads this to step up to their T.V. at 8:00 P.M., tune into your ABC station, and yell

The Road To Socialism
Congratulations, America! Or maybe it should be Condolences, America. Because our society, as a whole, is already well down the road to a socialist way of life. Oh, that is not what it is called, of course. We call it "liberal thinking" or "wealth redistribution" or "progressive secularism". But whatever catch phrase you want to use, it comes down to the same thing: socialism.
Let's look at how far we have already progressed.
1) The government already has at least partial control of the banking system now and control of the money is always good for more government control of a society.
2) Another important element of a socialist way of life is to control dissension from those who do not agree with your positions. Control of the media is greatly beneficial in helping with this particular matter. In our case, a large portion of the media has already willingly given up and given in to only providing the information that helps the liberals press their cause with the American people. For example, when was the last time that you heard the mainstream media provide ANY good news from Iraq?? Stores are open, power and sewer systems are working, children are in school and women are allowed to vote. But you did not hear that from most media outlets, because the left doesn't want anything said that is going to show any error in their thinking.
3) Getting everyone to think the same way is also part of the socialist plan. In our colleges, the professors and other instructors are overwhelmingly leftist in their thinking and in what and how they teach their students. And I can tell you, from the personal experiences of my four children, there are plenty of professors who will grade you lower if you don't happen to think along the liberal lines which they espouse. Oh, and by the way, have you seen the news reports about what happens when conservative speakers attempt to speak at many of our universities? They come as invited guests, but are shouted down or even assaulted when they try to speak about conservative issues.
4) Oh yes, and let us not forget Senator Barack Obama, who wants small businesses to do well so that he, and his party, can decide when your hard work has paid off enough so they can take the "extra wealth" and spread it around. And Speaker Pelosi was quoted last year as saying that we should tax the gasoline companies 100% windfall profits taxes because "there are 20 million undocumented immigrants who need our help to realize the American dream." So, those who work hard are not only going to have their "extra wealth" taken away by the government to give to our poorer citizens, they are apparently going to also give it to the CRIMINALS who have violated our laws to be in this country.
Oh, gee, did I say CRIMINALS?? I believe the term was "undocumented immigrants."
Remember this: Referring to an illegal alien as an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist!"
5) I almost forgot what I count as the most important step which is being quietly integrated into our society. The removal of our Christian religion. Please note that I did not say ALL religion, just that religion that about 70% of our citizens follow and believe in. Bibles are not allowed in most schools anymore. However, we seem to be OK with the Koran. Prayer mats and rooms dedicated to the daily prayers of a practicing Muslim are perfectly acceptable, but let an athlete so much as kneel in a moment of prayer after scoring and there could be repercussions for that action. When did the separation of church and state trump the freedom to practice your religion, or more directly, the practice of the CHRISTIAN religion? Taking Christianity out of the government plan is probably the most important step on the road to a socialist society. God forbid, oh, I mean GOVERNMENT forbid that any citizen would recognize a higher power in his/her life than the all knowing, all providing, ALL CONTROLLING GOVERNMENT!
IS THIS REALLY WHAT WE WANT OUR COUNTRY TO BECOME?? EACH AMERICAN SHOULD THINK ABOUT THIS ON ELECTION DAY, AND EVERY DAY THEREAFTER!!

The Audacity Of Hope vs. The Plain Truth
I was listening to a well known talk radio show today while driving along Skyline Drive. The commentator was discussing Barack Obama and theorizing as to why Sen. Obama is so popular. One of the reasons put forth was that Barack Obama gives people hope in a time when many problems exist within our society.
I agree that hope is good to have when times are bad. Hope helps us to keep trying and waiting for the times to improve. However, hope must not be blind to reality and the truth. It is easy to make promises to give people hope but it is quite another thing to then fulfill those promises. In the 1930's, Adolf Hitler gave hope to a German populace who were downtrodden and overcome by debt from losing World War I. Many promises were made and some were even kept. But, Hitler had stated many of his intentions in his book Mein Kampf (My Battle). In this book, Hitler outlined many of his plans that were brought to fruition after he rose to be Chancellor of Germany. His actions changed not only Germany, but the entire world for generations to come.
Senator Obama is NOT Adolf Hitler! I am not intending to characterize Sen. Obama as the next Hitler. My point is that, in his books and in his actions as the most liberal Senator in the current U.S. Senate, Barack Obama has made it very clear that he is planning liberal changes for this country that many of us, probably a majority, are not going to like. But many voters are still planning to vote for the Obama/Biden ticket because Sen. Obama is a gifted orator who gives people hope of better times to come.
But that hope is not going to solve our foreign or domestic problems. We need a leader who will tell you where he stands on an issue and then back up that talk with consistent action. Simply put, we need a leader who says what he means and does what he says. Senator Obama does not appear to be that man.
A very recent example of Sen. Obama supporting each side of an issue, depending on the group he is addressing, occurred reference to the World Series. While in Philadelphia a few days ago, Sen. Obama stated quite clearly that he was rooting for the Phillies, since the White Sox were not in the competition. Less that 48 hours later, he wowed the crowd at Tampa Bay when he announced his undying support for the Devil Rays. On a bigger issue, Barack Obama has portrayed himself as being a man of the people who understands and sypathizes with the problems of the common man in this country. But, when he leaves that crowd of everyday citizens of this country, and appears before his elitist group of rich friends in San Francisco, he derides the same ordinary citizens, saying that "they cling to their guns and religion" because they are afraid of anyone who does not look like them.
It is apparent to most people, even those who won't admit it, that the majority of the mainstream media is completely in the tank for the Obama/Biden ticket. Perhaps someone should ask the members of the media if they would check out the stories of William Ayres, Tony Rezko and ACORN at least as thoroughly as they have checked out Sarah Palin and Joe, The Plumber. It won't happen , of course, but it is something to think about.
There are two last points I ask you to consider. First, more than a few non-partisan experts have all agreed that there is no feasible way that Barack Obama can accomplish most of the agenda he has set forth without severely crippling or bankrupting the economy of this nation. The Wall Street Journal referred to his 95% tax cut plan as being, I believe, a 95% fantasy. Socialism has never succeeded as an economic system in this world and it never will. My second point is that Obama says he is the agent of change. That may be...he certainly has changed his mind about many commitments, statements and promises made from the past. The public campaign finance promise he pledged himself to is one of the most notable. As to the other "changes" , remember that change is not always a good thing. I myself have been an agent of change during the last 30 years. At the age of 24, I weighed in at a reasonable 200 lbs. Today, I weigh 485 lbs. That is certainly a major change!
BUT NOT ALL CHANGE IS NECESSARILY GOOD!
REMEMBER THAT ON ELECTION DAY!

A Letter To Barack Obama
To Barack Hussein Obama,
The New York Times carried a story on Saturday, October 4, 2008, that proved you had a significantly closer relationship with Bill Ayers than what you previously admitted. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.
The Chicago Sun reported on May 8, 2008, that FBI records showed that you had a significantly closer relationship with Tony Rezko than what you previously admitted. In the interview, you said that you only saw Mr.Rezko a couple of times a year. The FBI files showed that you saw him weekly. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.
Your speech in Philadelphia on March 18, 2008, about "race" contradicted your statement to Anderson Cooper on March 14 when you said that you never heard Reverend Wright make his negative statements about white America . While your attendance at Trinity Church for 20 years is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on March 14. In your 1st debate with John McCain, you said that you never said that you would meet with the leaders of Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea without "preparations" at lower levels ... Joe Biden repeated your words in his debate with Sarah Palin ... while the video tape from your debate lastFebruary clearly shows that you answered "I would" to the question of meeting with those leaders within 12 months without "any" preconditions. While your judgement about meeting with enemies of the USA without pre-conditions is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America in the debate with McCain.
On July 14, 2008, you said that you always knew that the surge would work while the video tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you stated that the surge would not work. While your judgement about military strategy as a potential commander-in-chief is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on July 14.
You now claim that your reason for voting against funding for the troops was because the bill did not include a time line for withdrawal, while the videotapes of you from more than a year ago show that you voted against additional funding because you wanted our troops to be removed immediately ... not in 16 months after the 2008 election as you now claim. While your judgement about removing our troops unilaterally in 2007 is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about your previous position.
You claim to have a record of working with Republicans while the record shows that the only bill that you sponsored with a Republican was with Chuck Lugar ... and it failed. The record shows that you vote 97% in concert with the Democrat party and that you have the most liberal voting record in the Senate. You joined Republicans only 13% of the time in your votes and those13% were only after agreement from the Democrat party. While it is of concern that you fail to include conservatives in your actions and that you are such a liberal, the greater concern is that you distorted the truth.
In the primary debates of last February, 2008, you claimed to have talked with a "Captain" of a platoon in Afghanistan "the other day" when in fact you had a discussion in 2003 with a Lieutenant who had just been deployed to Afghanistan . You lied in that debate.
In your debates last spring, you claimed to have been a "professor of Constitutional law" when in fact you have never been a professor of Constitutional law. In this last debate, you were careful to say that you taught a law class" and never mentioned being a "professor of Constitutional law." You lied last spring.
You and Joe Biden both claimed that John McCain voted against additional funding for our troops when the actual records show the opposite. You distorted the truth. You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted against funding for alternate energy sources 20 times when the record shows that John McCain specifically voted against funding for bio fuels, especially corn ... and he was right .... corn is too expensive at producing ethanol, and using corn to make ethanol increased the price of corn from $2 a bushel to $6 a bushel for food You distorted the truth.
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted like both of you for a tax increase on those making as little as $42,000 per year while the voting record clearly shows that John McCain did not vote as you and Joe Biden. You lied to America .
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted with George W. Bush 90% ofthe time when you know that Democrats also vote 90% of the time with the President (including Joe Biden) because the vast majority of the votes are procedural. You are one of the few who has not voted 90% of the time with the president because you have been missing from the Senate since the day you got elected. While your absence from your job in the Senate is of concern, the greater concern is that you spin the facts.
You did not take an active role in the rescue plan. You claimed that the Senate did not need you while the real reason that you abstained was because of your close relationships with the executives of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Countrywide, and Acorn ... who all helped cause the financial problems of today ... and they all made major contributions to your campaign. While your relationship with these executives and your protection of them for your brief 3 years in the Senate (along with Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters, and Chris Dodd) is of concern, the greater concern is that you are being deceitful.
You forgot to mention that you personally represented Tony Rezko and Acorn. You claim that you will reduce taxes for 95% of America , but you forgot to tell America that those reductions are after you remove the Bush tax reductions. You have requested close to $1 billion in earmarks and several million for Acorn. Your social programs will cost America $1 trillion per year and you claim that a reduction in military spending ($100 billion for Iraq ) can pay for it. While your economic plan of adding 30% to the size of our federal government is of concern, the greater concern is that you are deceiving America .
The drain to America 's economy by foreign supplied oil is $700 billion peryear (5% of GDP) while the war in Iraq is $100 billion (less than 1% of GDP) You voted against any increases to oil exploration for the last 3 years and any expansion of nuclear facilities. Yet today, you say that you have always been for more oil and more nuclear. You are lying to America .
Mr. Obama, you claimed that you "changed" your mind about public financing for your campaign because of the money spent by Republican PACs in 2004. The truth is that the Democrat PACs in 2004, 2006, and 2008 spent twice as much as the Republican PACs (especially George Soros and MoveOn.org). You are lying to America .
Mr. Obama, you have done nothing to stop the actions of the teachers union and college professors in the USA . They eliminated religion from our history. They teach pro gay agendas and discuss sex with students as young as first grade. They bring their personal politics into the classrooms. They disparage conservatives. They brainwash our children. They are in it for themselves ..... not America . Are you reluctant to condemn their actions because teachers and professors and the NEA contribute 25% of all money donated to Democrats and none to Republicans? You are deceiving America .
Oh, Mr. Obama, Teddy Roosevelt said about a hundred years ago that we Americans should first look at the character of our leaders before anything else. Your character looks horrible. While you make good speeches, motivating speeches, your character does not match your rhetoric. You talk the talk, but do not walk the walk.

The only blemish on his record is his part in the Keating 5 debacle about 25 years ago (and he was exonerated by a Democratic appointed special prosecutor).
Mr. Obama, at Harvard Law School, you learned that the end does not justify the means. You learned that perjury, false witness, dishonesty, distortion of truth are never tolerated. Yet, your dishonesty is overwhelming. Your dishonesty is tremendously greater than the dishonesty that caused the impeachment and disbarment of Bill Clinton. Your dishonesty is tremendously greater than the dishonesty of Scooter Libby. You should be ashamed.
Mr. Obama, it is time for us Americans to put aside our differences on political issues and vote against you because of your dishonest character. The New York Times carried a story on Saturday, October 4, 2008, that proved you had a significantly closer relationship with Bill Ayers than what you previously admitted. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.
The Chicago Sun reported on May 8, 2008, that FBI records showed that you had a significantly closer relationship with Tony Rezko than what you previously admitted. In the interview, you said that you only saw Mr.Rezko a couple of times a year. The FBI files showed that you saw him weekly. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.
Your speech in Philadelphia on March 18, 2008, about "race" contradicted your statement to Anderson Cooper on March 14 when you said that you never heard Reverend Wright make his negative statements about white America . While your attendance at Trinity Church for 20 years is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on March 14. In your 1st debate with John McCain, you said that you never said that you would meet with the leaders of Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea without "preparations" at lower levels ... Joe Biden repeated your words in his debate with Sarah Palin ... while the video tape from your debate lastFebruary clearly shows that you answered "I would" to the question of meeting with those leaders within 12 months without "any" preconditions. While your judgement about meeting with enemies of the USA without pre-conditions is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America in the debate with McCain.
On July 14, 2008, you said that you always knew that the surge would work while the video tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you stated that the surge would not work. While your judgement about military strategy as a potential commander-in-chief is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America on July 14.
You now claim that your reason for voting against funding for the troops was because the bill did not include a time line for withdrawal, while the videotapes of you from more than a year ago show that you voted against additional funding because you wanted our troops to be removed immediately ... not in 16 months after the 2008 election as you now claim. While your judgement about removing our troops unilaterally in 2007 is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about your previous position.
You claim to have a record of working with Republicans while the record shows that the only bill that you sponsored with a Republican was with Chuck Lugar ... and it failed. The record shows that you vote 97% in concert with the Democrat party and that you have the most liberal voting record in the Senate. You joined Republicans only 13% of the time in your votes and those13% were only after agreement from the Democrat party. While it is of concern that you fail to include conservatives in your actions and that you are such a liberal, the greater concern is that you distorted the truth.
In the primary debates of last February, 2008, you claimed to have talked with a "Captain" of a platoon in Afghanistan "the other day" when in fact you had a discussion in 2003 with a Lieutenant who had just been deployed to Afghanistan . You lied in that debate.
In your debates last spring, you claimed to have been a "professor of Constitutional law" when in fact you have never been a professor of Constitutional law. In this last debate, you were careful to say that you taught a law class" and never mentioned being a "professor of Constitutional law." You lied last spring.
You and Joe Biden both claimed that John McCain voted against additional funding for our troops when the actual records show the opposite. You distorted the truth. You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted against funding for alternate energy sources 20 times when the record shows that John McCain specifically voted against funding for bio fuels, especially corn ... and he was right .... corn is too expensive at producing ethanol, and using corn to make ethanol increased the price of corn from $2 a bushel to $6 a bushel for food You distorted the truth.
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted like both of you for a tax increase on those making as little as $42,000 per year while the voting record clearly shows that John McCain did not vote as you and Joe Biden. You lied to America .
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted with George W. Bush 90% ofthe time when you know that Democrats also vote 90% of the time with the President (including Joe Biden) because the vast majority of the votes are procedural. You are one of the few who has not voted 90% of the time with the president because you have been missing from the Senate since the day you got elected. While your absence from your job in the Senate is of concern, the greater concern is that you spin the facts.
You did not take an active role in the rescue plan. You claimed that the Senate did not need you while the real reason that you abstained was because of your close relationships with the executives of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Countrywide, and Acorn ... who all helped cause the financial problems of today ... and they all made major contributions to your campaign. The Big Test
"Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy." This quote comes from Senator Joe Biden, Barack Obama's running mate. He made this statement yesterday during a speech in Seattle, WA.
The general consensus overseas, as I understand it, is that Barack Obama is perceived as being much weaker and much less experienced than John McCain, a proven warrior who has demonstrated his strength in the face of adversity.
For those of you who are too young to remember the Bay of Pigs invasion and the subsequent Cuban Missile Crisis, allow me to present a short history lesson. In April, 1961, Cuban refugees, funded by the CIA, formed a brigade and attempted to overthrow Fidel Castro in Cuba. The invasion failed, many say because President Kennedy decided to withdraw air support from the invasion. Many viewed this as a tactical error, and some believe that it made Kennedy look weak and easy to push around.
That perception led Russian Premier Nikita Khruschev to attempt to install nuclear missiles in Cuba 18 months later, in October, 1962. President Kennedy ordered a blockade of armaments being sent to Cuba and for two weeks, the world teetered on the edge of nuclear war. Fortunately, President Kennedy prevailed and the crisis was resolved with the removal of all offensive weapons from Cuba.
Now Senator Biden says that he believes another crisis will be generated to test President Barack Obama. Is he up to the test? During the primaries of last spring, even his own running mate, Senator Biden, stated unequivocally that Senator Obama lacks the experience necessary at this time and that the job of President does not lend itself to on-the-job training. Was that primary campaign rhetoric or the actual truth? I guess we each need to decide that for ourselves on election day.
But when you vote, ask this question: Do you truly believe, in your heart of hearts, that the junior Senator from Illinois, with previous experience only as a lawyer, community organizer and state legislator, truly has the knowledge and experience to lead us through a crisis of world proportions?
GIVE THAT QUESTION SOME THOUGHT WHEN YOU STEP INTO THE VOTING BOOTH!!

Presidency For Sale
In 15 days, all Americans will have an opportunity to go to the polls and vote for our next president. This election has been a roller coaster ride, with the predictions going from an Obama blowout to a McCain upset win. In recent weeks, however, it has become painfully clear that certain segments of our society are trying various illegal methods to insure a Democratic win at any price.
Now, I do not deny that I am for John McCain for president. However, I am prepared to respect Barack Obama as president, but I do want to feel sure, in my own heart, that he has been elected fairly and honestly by the voters of this great country. Although the Obama campaign may or may not be involved in this activity, it is obvious to anyone who has been paying attention that illegal and dishonest methods are being used to try to ensure an Obama presidency. Do any voters, Democratic or Republicans, who love America and respect the rule of law really want to see the presidential contest decided this way? Do we really want to see the presidency auctioned off to the highest bidder? Has our political process sunk this low?
IF IT HASN'T YET, IT IS CERAINLY WELL ON ITS WAY!!
While still running in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama made an unqualified statement that he would utilize public funding for his campaign if his Republican opponent would agree to it. When it became apparent that there was a lot more campaign money to be made by breaking this promise, Senator Obama did so and never looked back. However, even though that broken commitment resulted in a massive money lead going into the general election, apparently that advantage did not appear to be enough for some of the supporters of Barack Obama.
Enter ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, a government funded group supposedly interested in expanding the voter base and getting more people out to vote. A funny thing happened though. ACORN only seemed able to get out the vote for people likely to vote for the Democratic party candidates. And, there is already plenty of evidence that they would like those voters to "vote early and vote often" as the old joke used to say. Except now, this is no joke. There is already plenty of evidence that there are some underhanded dealings going on and it is time for every true American to take a stand and say, "No, our election is not for sale."
The time is now to make this stand or have the American electoral process corrupted from now on.

The Torts and You
I have an observation about a current problem in America and some ideas on what we should be doing to improve the situation.
The abuse of the tort system in our society is both flagrant and widespread. Every accident and unforseen occurrence, no matter how bizarre, has to be somebody's fault, usually somebody with "deep pockets". And this victim mentality has been one of the largest contributors to rising health care costs and manufacturing expenses, where more and more malpractice and liability insurance must be purchased to cover every possible problem that may arise.
NEWS FLASH, AMERICA!! Sometimes, accidents happen. And sometimes, we have to take responsibility for our own contributions to these accidents. If you use illegal drugs or you smoke and/or drink while pregnant, then don't try to blame an obstetrician when your child is born less than perfect. If you misuse a product in a way that was not forseen by the manufacturer and you get injured, you need to take responsibilty for your action, instead of trying to blame the manufacturer for your own stupidity. Very often, such lawsuits are used by the "victims" and their lawyers as their shot at hitting the lottery. When the lawyer looks earnestly at you from the TV and tells you he cares about you and getting you the money you deserve, what he really means is he cares about getting his 40% out of whatever he can intimidate someone into giving him to make the lawsuit go away. Often, it is simply a matter of financial reality for a defendant to settle and payoff a plaintiff than to go through thousand of dollars in legal expenses required to defend against harassment lawsuits.
My solution is simple. KILL ALL THE LAWYERS!! Well, not really....but I do think that there are more than a few who should definitely be voted off the island, so to speak. The problem is simple. Lawyers will usually take almost any case, if there is a reasonable chance of a payoff at the other end. Plaintiffs use lawyers on a contingency basis, meaning they only have to pay off the attorney with a percentage (usually 30-40 %) of whatever money they receive. It costs the plaintiff and his/her attorney very little to take their shot at the "Lotto" that comes with a large jury award. And, as a result, our civil courts are heavily backlogged with cases waiting to be heard. However, if the law was changed to make a losing plaintiff, AND HIS ATTORNEY, responsible for reimbursing a winning defendant, then you would see far fewer frivolous lawsuits which would result in legitimate lawsuits being heard much sooner than they are now. Such a change would force the legal vultures, uh, excuse me, the plaintiffs' lawyers to be more judicious when deciding whether to take a case to court. A small side benefit might be to restore the legal profession back to a respectable standing, and cut back on lawyer jokes.

Every accident and unforseen occurrence, no matter how bizarre, has to be somebody's fault, usually somebody with "deep pockets". And this victim mentality has been one of the largest contributors to rising health care costs and manufacturing expenses, where more and more malpractice and liability insurance must be purchased to cover every possible problem that may arise.
NEWS FLASH, AMERICA!! Sometimes, accidents happen. And sometimes, we have to take responsibility for our own contributions to these accidents. If you use illegal drugs or you smoke and/or drink while pregnant, then don't try to blame an obstetrician when your child is born less than perfect. If you misuse a product in a way that was not forseen by the manufacturer and you get injured, you need to take responsibilty for your action, instead of trying to blame the manufacturer for your own stupidity. Something To Think About
Back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch, a very well known brothel in Nevada, for tax evasion and tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Think about this: We continue to trust the fractured economy of our country to a pack of nitwits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling booze. Are we nuts?
There are few programs that the U.S. Government takes over that don't wind up being more expensive, more inefficient and less productive than similar programs which are run by private enterprise. Now we are talking about having the government run our health care system. Look around the world. Those countries who have gone this way are either going bankrupt or getting out of the health care business because of the lack of efficiency. I, for one, do not want to see my health care plan overseen by any group that can't even run a whorehouse profitably!

My First Entry Into Blogging
Hello, America. This is my first, probably my only, venture into the wonderful world of blogging. I am 54 years old, 55 in December, and I have never done anything like this before so, if you decide to follow this blog, just be advised that you do so at your own risk. I have started this blog, in part, because of a new friend, Kristin, who writes a blog called Candysandwich.net. I met Kristin at a 24 Walk-a-thon for September 11 commemoration. She is a very interesting person and, in talking, she told me about her blog. I started reading it on a regular basis and I found it interesting to see the variety of subjects and thoughts she put forth in her blog. I want to try to put forth my thoughts, feelings and ideas in this blog, if for no other reason than to simply say some things that I have wanted to say for a long time. So, HERE I GO!
My name is Brian. I am 54 years old, a die hard Penn State Nittany Lions football fan (they are currently ranked #3 in the nation) and married for the past thirty years to my beautiful wife, Vicki. We have four adult children, ranging in ages from 20 to 28 and were recently blessed with our first grandchild, DJ, who is the son of my oldest son, Charles. More about my family and personal life in future posts.
I am a political moderate, although I guess most people would consider me right of center, politically speaking. I try to keep an open mind about most issues, live and let live, but I also feel that America, as a country, has turned too much away from many of the basic beliefs and core values which have made the United States of America the greatest country on Earth. And make no mistake about it, I believe that we, as Americans, are privileged to live in the greatest country that has ever existed on the face of God's green earth.
Because I believe this as a fact, it makes me very sad to see our country coming apart at the seams sometimes. We are split in so many areas, such as religion vs. secularism, gender divisions, racial divisions, political divisions...the list goes on and on. One of the greatest of our presidents, Abraham Lincoln, once said, "a house divided against itself cannot stand." These words need to be heeded now if we are to realize the true greatness that our country has yet to achieve. We have become a nation of "me first" and "it's not my fault." We lie, cheat and steal from each other in the quest of acquiring wealth, power and control. Many, perhaps most, of our "public servants" in our Congress and in state legistlatures have ceased to be the servants of the people, but rather, they are the servants of the special interest groups whom they try to cater to simply to aid their re-election bids and keep them in their positions of power. This is not just a Democratic Party problem or a Republican Party problem, this is a problem for all of us.
As citizens of the USA, we annually preside over the wasteful spending of billions of OUR dollars, for all sorts of projects of doubtful value. Our recent financial bailout is just the latest example of this. We started out with a bailout bill which was three pages long, and it was voted down. Then the Congressional Piggies got their collective noses up to the public trough and created a bill of some 450+ pages of pork barrel projects that had to be passed because of the need for the bailout legislation. It is discouraging, disheartening and downright maddening to watch our legislators work.
In the coming days, weeks and months to come, I am going to try to use this blog to expose what I see as the larger problems in this country. But, unlike many people I know who whine and complain about things as they are, but never do anything to try and fix the problem, I am going to try to offer some simple ideas for trying to make life in America better for all of us. I hope you will join me.
