A Presidential Comparison

I recently received this article from a friend and I thought it was worth passing on to you, my few but loyal readers.

A Presidential Comparison Quiz

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Tony Blair a set of inexpensive and useless (to Tony Blair's UK video formatting) DVDs, when Tony Blair had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current on their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive?

Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 10 weeks -- so you'll have three years and nine-and-a-half months to come up with an answer.

I don't think that all of these necessarily constitute events that define a presidency. It's a little bit of pot/kettle calling. Or just pot. The kettle's been left alone.

Personally, I couldn't care less about giving the Queen an iPod. She reacted positively. And bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia? Bush kissed him, held his hand and changed our policies toward his country.

As for the money, maybe more oversight would have kept us out of the current economic situation. I don't know. I'm not an economist. Our debt did increase $4 trillion or 71.9 percent during Bush's presidency and we're now in a recession. I don't know that I'd compare that to confusing Austrian and Austrian German.

I certainly agree that the Bush administration had a hand in much of the mess we're dealing with today.

Bush called himself a compassionate conservative. Unfortunately he wasn't very conservative at all (at least fiscally). He yielded to many Democratic initiatives like the Community Reinvestment Act and Medicare Part D. The irony is that conservative voters abandoned him, and he still couldn't win any Democratic supporters.

Now let's turn to President Obama. He's spending money at a record pace. He talks about important initiatives like health care reform by suggesting that the cost consumes a far too large percent of our nations GDP. Guess what? He's right. But what's the first thing he wants to do with health care? He wants to increase taxes to raise money that will allow him to give free health care to people who are currently uninsured. Noble - maybe. Addressing the cost issue - absolutely not! Why doesn't he talk about something that would help reduce costs like tort reform? Could it be that the John Edwards type ambulance chasers donated a lot of money to his campaign?

President Obama is intent on redistributing the wealth in this country. He is not deterred by what impact this will have on the economy. He knows that he can blame a deepening recession on Bush. He is also not deterred by the fact that no country has ever prospered with such a socialistic agenda.

So go ahead and support what our President is doing. But first try to think of one place where this has worked.
